Today we’re discussing the significance of mentorship. It is one of the most challenging times ever to recruit and retain talented and passionate hospitality people. If you want the best people, you need to be the best person. If you want to become the best person, you need to go work for the best people. Folks, its the power of mentorship.
Roger Beaudoin has 22 years of experience in the restaurant and hospitality industry and has combined that experience w/MBA from Babson College. He has headed four restaurant and hospitality operations in all. His most recent restaurant, The Matterhorn Ski Bar, a seasonal, 4 month restaurant and bar, generated 1 million dollars in annual sales.
Today, with all of his knowledge and experience, he is tackling his newest passion project, RestaurantRockstarsAcademy.com, where he shares the tricks of the trade and everything he’s learned over the years of being an extremely successful restaurateur.

Todays Topic: Finding a Mentor
Ok, so I already made my point in the intro– there is so much that can come out of both being a mentor and finding a mentor.
However… its not like you can snap your fingers and a mentors appears. Sometimes we’re just not fortunate enough to develop that relationship with a mentor before we start the process of opening a restaurant, but don’t let that discourage you!
I mean… its never been easier than now, to get the right people in your corner. They don’t have to be one-on-one mentors. Sometimes just being around their influence is enough to pick up their mentorship.
Some of the more unique ways I know of to surround your self with a mentor are to:
- Use social media to find and follow people doing totally rad things that interest you, and just learn from what their doing.
- Read or listen to books on how to be successful.
- Listen to a podcast where successful people are being interviewed.
- Hiring a coach or consultant.
- Buy into a community or serious of modules that spell out how to be successful and gives you access to 24/7 support.
That last bullet is what RestaurantRockstarsAcademy.com is all about. We’ve seen it time and time again. Someone has the dream of opening a restaurant but they don’t do the due diligence of researching exactly what it takes to be successful, and by the time they figure it out its too late. Well if you find yourself in a hole, Roger can help dig you out.
